Jonathan Larson’s RENT follows a year in the lives of young artists seeking connections, navigating political instability, mourning losses, and facing the tolls of an emerging deadly virus. Staging the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical RENT at the Virginia Theatre provides an opportunity for all to gather, and for the Illinois Theatre to connect to the larger Champaign-Urbana community outside of the University of Illinois campus. As we continue our own search for a deeper connection and begin the work of building stronger ties to all areas of our CU community, the Illinois Theatre production of RENT serves as joyous celebration of the lives that have touched us. Based on Puccini’s La Bohéme, RENT lets us look back in order to move forward.
Tickets for RENT will go on sale to the public at 10am on August 18 at thevirginia.org.
