Illinois Theatre is the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s premier producing theatre company, and is maintained specifically for the participation and education of students of the Department of Theatre. Each year, the Department selects a dynamic season of plays and theatrical experiences which offer exciting challenges and opportunities to students studying in all areas of theatre, and which explore the enduring mysteries of the human condition and the critical questions of our times.
Students, faculty, and guest artists collaborate to produce each season at the highest artistic and professional standards. Housed in the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, Illinois Theatre productions can be seen on any of its 5 world-class stages, as well as venues across campus and in the greater community.
The Armory Free Theatre is the primary site for student driven productions of experimental theatre, original works, interdisciplinary projects, and events not otherwise accommodated by the university. Residencies are intended to give students the freedom to pursue their primary educational research as developing artists.
