About Robin McFarquhar
Biography
Robin McFarquhar is a nationally recognized Fight Director/Movement Specialist and former Chair of the Acting Programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is a Certified Teacher/Fight Director (SAFD) and an accredited teacher of the Alexander Technique (AmSat). His fight choreography has been seen at major regional theatres throughout the country including; Steppenwolf Theatre (IL), The Goodman Theatre (IL), Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Court Theatre (IL), Writer’s Theatre (IL), The Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Guthrie Theatre (MN), The Old Globe (CA), South Coast Rep (CA), The Shakespeare Theatre of Washington (DC), The Long Wharf Theatre, (CT), and the Idaho, Illinois, Utah, and Virginia Shakespeare Festivals. His work has also been seen on Broadway, in the National Tour of The Color Purple, at the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Swan Theatre in Stratford (England), in the West End of London, and on tours to Japan, Cyprus, and Hungary. He has worked with Tony Award-winning directors, and actors such as Mark Ruffalo, John C. Reilly, Ricardo Chivera, Gary Sinise, John Malkovich, and Denzel Washington. He has been nominated for two Joseph Jefferson Awards (Chicago), a Helen Hayes Award (Washington, DC), and has received two Meritorious Achievement Awards from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival. At the University of Illinois he is the recipient of the Excellence in Research Award (College of Fine and Applied Arts), the Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching Award, and is a University Scholar.
