BFA in Theatre Studies (Directing, Playwriting, Dramaturgy)
Theatre Studies allows students to study the core cluster of playwriting, directing and dramaturgy, along with the many other facets of theatre. The flexible curriculum in Theatre Studies allows for a high degree of individual exploration. Interview/Portfolio Review Dates
The BFA in Theatre Studies requires that students are both academically eligible and the completion of an interview/portfolio review. We offer several different options for completing the interview/portfolio review process - please select one of the options below:
On-Campus Interviews/Portfolio Reviews:
Come to campus, tour our facilities, meet with faculty and students from Theatre Studies! Choose from one of the dates below to do your interview/portfolio review at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts on the U of I campus! There is no fee to interview on campus.

Chicago Unified Auditions and Interviews/Portfolio Reviews:
Join us at the Palmer House Hotel in Chicago for Unifieds! This option requires a $30 fee and registration through Acceptd at the link below.

Illinois High School Theatrefest
If your high school is planning to attend IHSTF this year, you may choose to do your portfolio review during Theatrefest. If you are interested in this option, please let us know through the link below. PLEASE KNOW: the link below is only so we know to look for you, if you intend to audition at Theatrefest you MUST ALSO register through Theatrefest: https://www.illinoistheatre.org/ihstf

Theatre Studies Interview/Portfolio Review Requirements:
If you are doing your interview in person, please bring a portfolio with you. If you are doing your interview virtually, you will need to submit your portfolio materials via the Acceptd link above no later than ONE WEEK prior to your interview date. The portfolio should include:
Resume listing your theatrical experience and educational background. Special skills, hobbies, employment history, awards and other relevant information can also be included.
Statement of Purpose about what you would like to do in the Theatre Studies BFA and why you are interested in our program
Short Creative Piece such as a stage script, film script, poetry, director's notebook, review, etc.
Research paper or Essay which may be on any topic.
