MFA: Design, Technology, Management
The areas of Design, Technology, and Management combine into a collaborative effort of the Department of Theatre, Lyric Theatre @ Illinois, Dance at Illinois, and the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. This collaboration puts students in contact with professionally active faculty and more than twenty professionals in design and production who staff the Krannert Center. Rigorous training and practical experience provide real skills to students who want to become designers, managers, or technicians.
Our graduates are employed in every facet of the performing arts and related production arts, including television, regional theatre, opera, dance, architectural consulting, museum exhibit design, scenic automation shops, and many more. Our students become a part of a vast network of working professional alumni who own production companies, work on Broadway, create in Las Vegas, and travel to China and beyond.
We guide passionate students of production design, technology, and management through rigorous training and diverse experiences that feed curiosity, spark the imagination, and foster the joy of collaborative discovery. We believe in the human connections that give the performing arts the capacity to reflect, engage, entertain, and empower our communities locally and globally. Therefore, we are developing a flexible and creative collective of designers, technicians, and managers to deepen our impact as leaders at every level of the performing arts.
